Terms of service
Campervan Hire Terms & Conditions
Last updated: 8th July 2026
These are the terms on which we hire our campervans to you. Please read them before booking. By booking, you agree to these terms.
1. Information about us
We are Artisan Adventures Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (“Artisan Adventures”, “we” or “us”). Our company registration number is 15124609 and our registered office is Green Lane Farm, 16 Green Lane, Sowood, HX4 9JL.
You can contact us by telephone on 07748 187431 or 07748 184998, by writing to us at the above address, or by email at artisanadventureltd@outlook.com.
If we need to contact you, we'll do so by telephone or in writing to the email address you gave us when booking. “Writing” and “written” in these terms includes email.
2. Our contract with you
The contract is between Artisan Adventures and the customer (main driver) named in the booking (“you”), for the hire of the campervan you've chosen, for the period and at the price described on our website or in our quotation, plus any chargeable extras you order. The statutory provisions relating to package travel contracts do not apply. You organise your own journey and use of the campervan is your own responsibility.
The contract comes into existence when we email you to confirm receipt of the initial £150 deposit (or 20% of the total cost for hires of 10 nights or more) and send you a booking confirmation email.
If we can't accept your booking, for example because the campervan is no longer available for reasons we couldn't reasonably plan for, or we've found a pricing error, we'll tell you in writing and won't charge you.
We always retain ownership of the campervan and its contents. You have temporary possession as a hirer only, and may not sell, sublet, lend, pledge, or otherwise deal with our campervan.
3. Price
Prices quoted include: fully comprehensive insurance for one driver aged 21–79; a mileage allowance of 150 miles per 24-hour period, or unlimited UK mileage for hires of 7 nights or more; UK and European breakdown cover; hire of cooking equipment, crockery, cutlery and onboard equipment; and any extras you select at booking. If a pricing error is obvious and something you could reasonably have spotted as a mistake, we may cancel the contract and refund any sums paid.
4. Insurance and driver eligibility
Fully comprehensive cover for one driver is included in the standard hire charge, insured through Allianz Insurance plc (policy 26/BV/29417950/03).
• Drivers must be aged 21–79, and have held a valid full UK or EU driving licence for at least 2 years. Non-UK/EU licences, or drivers outside this age range, may only be accepted with our insurer's prior written agreement.
• Your licence (plus paper counterpart if applicable) and two proofs of current address dated within 90 days, one utility bill plus one of a council tax bill, TV/internet/landline bill, bank statement, credit card statement, or mortgage statement, must be provided on the day of hire, matching the licence address.
Additional terms from our insurer
Each hirer and authorised driver must meet the following requirements (unless otherwise agreed by us and our insurer):
• Is 21 years of age or over but under 79 years of age, with at least 2 years' full UK or EU driving licence experience.
• Has produced their licence for inspection by Artisan Adventures, along with the required proofs of address.
• Is not engaged in professional gambling, sport or entertainment, hawking or general dealing, street or market trading, modelling, jockeying, or work connected with racing, gaming, or the press.
• Has not been involved in more than one fault motoring accident or claim within the preceding three years.
• Has not been convicted of a motoring offence, or had their licence endorsed with more than 6 points, other than parking or one speeding offence.
• Has referred any medical condition requiring DVLA notification, and authorisation has been granted by the DVLA.
• Has not been refused motor insurance at normal rates and terms, or had a policy declined, cancelled, or renewal refused by an insurer.
Cover excludes drivers under 21 or over 79 years of age, drivers with less than 2 years' full UK or EU licence experience, and cash hirers, all hires must be paid by credit/debit card or direct bank payment. Full policy booklet available on request.
• An additional driver can be added at £25 per night; they must meet the same eligibility requirements.
• You're responsible for any legal penalties, speeding fines or parking tickets incurred during hire; see the Additional Costs table below for our admin fee.
• Our insurance covers the campervan only, not your personal possessions, we recommend your own possessions and travel insurance.
• You're liable to third parties for any loss not covered by the campervan's insurance policy.
• In the event of an accident, our insurer's Motor Claims Team can be reached on 0370 606 4912.
5. Proof of identity and documentation
You must give us honest, accurate information for every driver, including licence numbers. False information invalidates insurance and ends the hire contract with no refund.
On collection day, all drivers must be present with: a copy of their driving licence, and two proofs of address as described in Section 4. A DVLA check code, dated 21 days before hire, must also be provided, we'll remind you nearer the time, as the code can't be issued earlier.
Failure to provide this information may mean we can't hire the campervan to you, and we may end the contract with no refund. We check every named driver before hire commencement.
6. Payment
• We accept a bank payment and will send you a payment link. We don't accept cash or cheques.
• A deposit of £150 (or 20% of the total cost for hires of 10 nights or more) is taken at booking, with the balance due 8 weeks before your hire starts.
• If you book less than 8 weeks before your hire starts, the full cost is payable at booking.
• Gift vouchers and discount codes are limited to one per booking and can't be combined with other offers.
7. Security deposit
• A refundable security deposit of £1000 is payable by bank payment, in full, 2 weeks before collection.
It's held against: the insurance excess if there's an accident or damage; and any additional charges under Section 11 below, including the campervan not being returned with the fuel level, condition, or clean/empty toilet it had at collection, or being returned late.
• Refunds are processed within 10 days of the end of hire (allow a further 5–10 working days for Stripe to transfer funds to you). If we retain any amount, we'll explain why and provide an itemised breakdown.
• A double bond is required for festivals. Our vehicles are tracked, attending a festival without our prior written permission forfeits at least £250 of your bond.
8. If your campervan becomes unavailable
If your chosen campervan becomes unavailable, we'll try to offer a comparable substitute and tell you as soon as reasonably possible; you may then choose to end the contract for a full refund within 7 days. If no substitute is possible, we'll refund you in full within 7 days. We can't accept responsibility for missed plans as a result.
9. Cancellation
See our separate Cancellation & Refund Policy, which forms part of these terms.
10. Collection and return
• Collect from the address and time slot in your booking confirmation. You can only take the campervan if you've paid in full (hire cost and security deposit) and your documents and licence checks are satisfactory to us.
• No reimbursement is given for lost hire time if you arrive late to collect, and the hire period isn't extended.
• If you don't collect as arranged and we can't reach you or rearrange within the booked period, we may end the contract.
• Return the campervan in the same condition it was provided (fair wear and tear excepted). You're liable for the costs of restoring it, and for its full replacement value if it isn't returned at all.
• Return between 09:00 and 12:00 on the date in your booking confirmation. Late returns are charged at £25 per hour or part-hour after 12:00, deducted from your security deposit; if a late return makes us liable to the next hirer for more than this hourly rate, that excess is a debt due from you.
• No refund is given for early return (except a breakdown that isn't your fault). If you plan to return early, get written confirmation from us that someone will be at our premises to meet you.
• Free parking for one vehicle is offered in our yard, at your own risk, for the duration of the hire.
11. Mileage, fuel and additional costs
Your hire includes 150 miles per 24-hour period, or unlimited UK mileage for hires of 7 nights or more.

If the van can't be repaired, you'll get a full or partial refund depending on the time left in your hire. If you choose not to use Call Assist to return you to our premises, that return is at your own cost. Follow the procedures in the breakdown documentation provided with the van.
If mechanical failure happens before you depart, we'll try to provide a similar campervan; if none is available, you'll get a full refund. We're not liable for missed plans due to breakdown, or for adverse weather affecting your hire. If a non-breakdown mechanical fault needs a garage during your hire, we'll reimburse valid receipts provided you have our prior written consent for the repair.
14. Vehicle trackers
Our campervans are fitted with trackers, used to support safe and compliant use of the vehicle. If the campervan isn't returned as agreed, we may use tracker data to recover it, including attending your premises, and recover our costs of doing so from you.
15. Using the campervan
• Only drivers named on your booking may drive. Drive cautiously, prudently, and normally at all times.
• It's a breach of these terms to: cause damage through misuse; drive under the influence of drink or drugs; leave the ignition key in the van or fail to lock it when unattended; carry more passengers than seatbelts allow (car seats for children are your responsibility, we don't supply them); submerge the van in water or expose it to saltwater; use it for racing, rallying, or any illegal purpose; use it to carry passengers or property for hire or reward; carry volatile, corrosive, or flammable materials; use it for business purposes; take it outside our agreed travel area without our prior written agreement; or light candles inside it.
• The campervan must only be driven by people aged 21–79 and otherwise authorised by law to drive it.
• Report any theft to us and the police immediately.
16. Taking the campervan abroad
With our prior written agreement, you can take the campervan into mainland Europe. Our comprehensive insurance cover extends within the EU; the compulsory minimum cover also extends to Andorra, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Gibraltar, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway, San Marino, Serbia, Switzerland, and Vatican City, and Call Assist's breakdown cover includes European assistance. You're responsible for complying with local traffic laws, tolls, congestion or emissions charges, and for booking your own ferry or Eurotunnel crossing.
17. Road use
Drive with care and caution in line with current road traffic law, and be aware of the vehicle's dimensions and fragile underside/roof parts. Any recovery or repairs needed because of driving on unsuitable terrain are at your cost. We may restrict where the campervan can be taken in severe weather.
18. Pets
• Pets are allowed only with our prior written agreement, at the fee shown in Section 12.
• We don't provide pet beds or bedding. Pets aren't allowed in the front of the vehicle, on the furniture, or in sleeping areas/roof tents, damage from chewing or scratching is deducted from your bond.
• You're responsible for restraining pets in line with the Highway Code.
19. Alterations and smoking
Don't make any alterations or additions to the campervan without our prior written consent. We operate a strict no-smoking policy; evidence of smoking incurs the valeting charge in Section 11.
20. Accidents
Tell us about any accident, loss or damage within 2 hours. Get names, addresses and contact details for any third parties and witnesses, and report to the nearest police station (with a crime number for theft). You agree to help us with any resulting claim, including giving evidence if needed.
21. Liability
We don't exclude or limit our liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud. Nothing here affects your legal rights; advice is available from your local Citizens Advice.
Our campervans are for domestic and private use only, we have no liability for loss of profit, business, or business opportunity if you use one commercially. You're responsible for your own possessions in the van. We're not liable for accidents, loss, injury, expense or inconvenience arising from your booking, except as set out above.
We hold £5,000,000 of public and products liability insurance with the Salvation Army General Insurance Corporation Limited (Sagic), arranged through Alan Boswell Insurance Brokers.
22. Maintenance
We carry out pre-hire service checks and handle all maintenance. You must stop and respond to any dashboard warning light.
23. Ending the contract
We may end the contract before your hire starts if: a named driver fails our eligibility checks; you don't pay when due (including within 7 days of a payment reminder); or the booking form has been altered without our written agreement (in which case any deposit is lost).
We may end the contract and repossess the campervan at any time, at your cost, if: you breach these terms; the campervan was obtained by fraud or misrepresentation; it's abandoned; or it isn't returned by the agreed time, or we reasonably believe it won't be. In these cases you have no right to a refund of hire charges or the security deposit.
You may end the contract if we materially breach these terms, or become insolvent.
24. Governing law
This contract, and any dispute about it, is governed by the law of England & Wales, with the English courts having exclusive jurisdiction.
25. Severance
If a court finds part of this contract unlawful, the rest continues in force, with each clause operating separately.
26. Data protection
We only use your personal information as set out in our Privacy Policy
